How do I move up the scrambling grades?
By Trail magazine
The transition from Grade 1 scrambling to Grade 2 is considerable. Grade 1s take lines that are clear and easy to follow with difficulties that can be bypassed. Also, the actual climbing skills involved are natural. Grade 2s follow lines that tend to exploit weakness through more difficult ground, often in exposed situations. Good route-finding and technical move skills are necessary, as is the ability to handle exposure. In preparation for making the transition, cover lots and lots of Grade 1 ground to fine-tune your route-finding skills and make sure you are competent and mentally prepared for the next step up. Go down to your local climbing wall and do an introductory course, or get out and boulder. This will develop your skills in excess of what you need, thus giving you a comfort zone, and will improve your ability to spot the correct sequence of moves to avoid difficulty.

Learn to climb, learn protection, find a partner and buy the guidebooks. It's not hard.
