Which is better for hill-walking – kangaroo or beef jerky?

Answer

Kangaroo meat is the latest green craze to sweep the planet, according to Greenpeace. They reckon Aussies can dramatically reduce their carbon footprint by farming fewer farty, methane-producing cows and eating more local wildlife that’s less prone to break wind. Nutritionist Jayne Hastings compares the best kanga option for UK walkers – kangaroo jerky –  with its beef counterpart.

Kangaroo jerky
Wins over beef jerky for hill-walkers looking to keep their hearts healthy with low cholesterol snacks this winter as it is slightly lower in fat, saturates and calories (2.2kcal per 20g serving).

Beef jerky
Beats kanga jerky if you have high blood pressure. Both jerkies contain very high amounts of salt that far exceed the guideline daily amount (GDA) of 6g per day but the beef jerky is the slightly lower-salt option.
