How do I warm up to start climbing?

Answer

By Anonymous

Before you climb or scramble it’s a good idea to warm up properly. Here are two stretches to get you started. They are taken from the book ‘Stretching’ by Bob Anderson, illustrated by Jean Anderson, pb Shelter Publications.

1 Hold right elbow with left hand, then gently pull elbow behind head until an easy tension-stretch is felt. Hold for 10-15 seconds. Do not overstretch. Repeat for other side.

2 Interlace your fingers above your head. With your palms facing upward, push your arms slightly back and up. Feel the stretch in arms, shoulders and upper back. Hold stretch for 15 seconds. Do not hold your breath. This stretch is good to do anywhere, any time.
