Life coach Ian Sharp says, “The first question I ask anyone is, “What do I want?” and then “What stops me?” Here, the issue is the balance of work and training time and you solve it by prioritising what you really need to do as a way of making time for what you really want to do.”
Step one
Start by setting your goal. Target a specific mountain that you want to do that weekly exercise for to avoid any time-related excuses.
Step two
Give your 30 minute fitness training the priority it deserves on your ‘to do’ list, rearranging work items that can be done tomorrow, more efficiently, by someone else, or even not done at all.
Step three
Beat post-work tiredness with this neuro-linguistic programming exercise. Give yourself a good shake (like beam me up Scotty – find a loo cubicle for this part), then visualize how good you’ll feel after training and after achieving your mountain goal.
Step four
Start with smaller chunks of exercise time. By taking action and kick-starting the habit of exercising for even 10 or 15 minutes, you’ll get into the habit of making time for training.
Step five
You found time to read this, so what are you waiting for?
