Can I use meal replacement drinks instead of lunch on the hill?

Answer

What are they? “A blend of slow-release carbs, muscle-building protein, essential fatty acids and vitamins… that act as a full meal with a complete nutritional intake.”
What they cost: £30 per pack of 20 from www.myprotein.co.uk

A Meal replacement products (MRPs) are very convenient for the hill as they are portable, quick and easy to prepare. MRPs also provide precise amounts of nutrients and calories so they can help walkers meet their nutritional needs. This MRP’s high protein content will not give you thighs of steel, but hill-walking will certainly tone your leg muscles! Its omega 3 level is beneficial as it is found less easily than omega 6 in common foods. It has a low GI (glycaemic index) so energy will be released into the bloodstream at a slower rate than high-GI foods. Drink this MRP before you set off for sustained energy during a day in the hills.
