Are cereal bars better than muesli for breakfast?

Answer

By Anonymous

Chunky Slices cereal bars join Dorset Cereals’ range of products, so you can now take their breakfasts camping in a pocket-friendly format. But how do these new 50g bars compare with Dorset Cereals’ old-style muesli-in-a-bowl for a pre-walk brekkie? Nutritionist Jayne Hastings says, “The cereal bars contain 14% more fat than the muesli – almost a fifth of your daily allowance – and they are also higher in salt. However, if you are looking for a practical breakfast or a snack for hill-walking the cereal bars are much easier to munch on.”

Also no, but for different reasons. A hot silver foil bag of muesli in the tent at dawn is a physical and mental lift that you would find difficult to replicate with a bar of anything other than maybe gold.

No-most cereal bars contain high quantities of sugars, that will give you a quick boost but not sustain you very long.  I have museli (the good one's with lots of fruit and nuts) with orange juice or natural yoghurt and I can happily last till lunch time even when out walking
