Was Alan Hinkes the first person to climb all the ‘8000ers’ (the world’s 14 highest peaks)?

No, Reinhold Messner (pictured, with the beard) was. Alan was the 13th person to climb all the 8000m mountains but the first Briton to do so. He was preceded by:
Reinhold Messner (Italian)
Jerzy Kukuczka (Polish)
Erhard Loretan (Swiss)
Carlos Carsolio (Mexican)
Krzysztof Wielicki (Polish)
Juanito Oiarzabal (Spanish)
Sergio Martini (Italian)
Hong-Gil Um (Korean)
Park Young Seok (Korean)
Alberto Inurrategi (Spanish)
Han Wang Yong (Korean)
and
Ed Viesturs (American)

This Box Sucks
Alan claims that he summitted Cho Oyu alone, and this cannot be ratified. If we take him at his word, and I don't question his integrity, he was the 13th. ...and you're right,..it was Meissner.

I seem to remember He was the first Brit...but about the 11th or13th worldwide. I think it was Rienhold Meissner first but memories not up to speed today.
