Is it ok to have a campfire?

Answer

By Anonymous

Campfires are banned in most campsites and wild places – always check with the landowner. So to relive scout moments you’ll have to sing kum-by-ah and toast marshmallows round the campstove.

No, not even a "traditional spot " where there's eveidence of previous fire lighting. (Think back...)

As jester says, below the high water mark on a beach, a proper campsite where they allow it, but never on the hill.

Foreshores are a good place, basically anywhere that you can light a fire and leave no damage. Keep it small, and clear away after you. Oh, and don't get caught!

Depends where you are; depends what you're burning.

'That which burns never returns'.

Depends where you do it. There are several campsites that I have used that are happy for you to have a campfire....but they are quite specific about where and what size.

If in doubt, check with the landowner, and always make sure that you have some nearby means of dowsing the fire.

I think that the fire areas in the states are set aside from the tents and from what I've heard the community spirit on an evening is great, might get chance to try it sometime.
