Is Dartmoor water safe to drink? Or have the Army contaminated it beyond the capability of a water filter?

We contacted Dartmoor National Park Authority who said:

"You should take the same care as you would with water in any upland area: check it looks clean, that the streambed and vegetation look green, and that there are no dead animals nearby. Filtering and purifying the water is a good idea - boiling is a very effective method.

"As for contamination from army use - this shouldn't be a problem. The military only use light weapons (and generally blanks), in their exercises on the moors rather than any kind of chemical which could pollute the water."

The drinkable water has always been a big isuue. I'm sure dissertation writing services have lots of suggestions.

Great porch space with doors on either side, plenty of space, airy, nice orange inner, very stable and self supporting (pick up and move anywhere, once up) are discrabed on cheap term papers. Downsides are difficulty of erecting this if camping alone, due to the long length of the tent and the way the fly sheet and pole hugging sleeves pull themselves together into a column while attempting to insert poles.

I have blamed the army for many things in my days - but screwing up the water purity on Dartmoor is certainly not one of them.  Why the army?

Any moorland area is going to have a lot of standing water and a lack of fast flowing streams; and Dartmoor is heavily grazed.  In any such area I'd be cautious about water unless you are sure you are well above any human contamination and agricultaral land AND have a fairly fast flowing source of water.  Most 'mountain' areas are OK - but Dartmoor is iffy!

I've been doing the Ten Tors challenge for a number of years and i drink Dartmoor water in it's natural form, no boiling and no purification and i have never been ill yet, in fact it is one of the most refreshing things you can do after a walk on the hills. Cool Pure Water. However i have lived off spring water all my life and don't drink treated water so i may have a higher immunity than prehaps some people. It's up to you.
