How do I cook in cold weather?

Answer

Sub-zero temperatures reduce the efficiency of gas canisters. Storing them in your tent and insulating their base when using them will help. It is worth carrying an extra canister and also using a mixed gas type, which tends to work better when it’s cold.

If establishing a 'base' camp, take a board covered in tinfoil, gives a solid base and also reflects a bit of heat back up. Alternatively hang the stove, Jetboil make a kit to fit the PCS, which is great.

As said above, insulate the cannister from the ground. Use something along the lines of a Primus Stove Foot Rest, not only stabilises the cannister but stops the it from coming into contact with the cold ground.
